FAQs
What is a doula?
A doula is a woman who is hired to support another woman during pregnancy and childbirth. Womb+Wisdom offers doula support for pregnancy and postpartum.
Why should i hire birth support?
Pregnancy and childbirth along with the transition to motherhood, whether you be first time mama or you are adding another little to your family, comes with the need for both physical and emotional support.
It is critical during pregnancy to recognize the mental and emotional layers that play a role in physiological birth. Your doula is a sister who will hold space for and help you navigate anything that arises in order to prepare for birth.
How does my partner fit in to the picture?
Your doula is not a replacement for your partner and their role during this sacred time. While it hasn’t been until the last 50 years that men have entered the role of support for birthing women, fathers have a critical role in the family dynamic and we are here to support them as well.
Womb+Wisdom offers support and education for partners as well, and when considering your birth plan we will discuss how you feel your partner and doula can work together to best support you!
When should i hire support?
While you can hire a doula up until days prior to childbirth, you will receive the greatest benefit by hiring your doula sooner than later.
Our support provides wisdom and education for women that proves beneficial starting in your early days of pregnancy. Establishing your birth team earlier allows time for you to establish an emotional connection and bond.
Can i hire you for a family member or friend?
Absolutely!
Many women would love to hire support for pregnancy and birth, and/or postpartum, while also battling the investment during planning for a new little family member(s).
Maternal support is the gift that keeps on giving. Providing in home care for mothers during pregnancy and postpartum allows them to deeply immerse and connect with themselves and their baby.
What if i have an INDUCTION or cesarean birth?
If an induction or cesarean birth becomes part of your birth plan a doula will then provide support on an emotional level and hold space while your birth unfolds. During your immediate postpartum your doula will also be present to care for mother and provide breastfeeding support.
